Tips for tagging photos effectively

10/12/2018

Adding a label to a photograph may not be something that users like, but if we think about what we want to get when tagging our photos, we will see that multiple benefits can be obtained. The objective we must pursue is to add the necessary information of a photograph to be able to find it whenever it meets the requirements of a search we have done.

If a blog or web has a good tag base, it will facilitate the search using different criteria. The power of the searches always depends on the good or bad that you assign the labels to the texts, or in this case to the photographs.

Many photo storage applications such as Flickr or Picassa, among others, use tags that have the photographs assigned to describe them and be able to locate them. So, assigning labels to our photos will make it easier for other users to reach the internet on my website, for example.

Here are some tips to keep in mind when we need to label photos effectively:

1. Label for groups in pictures of going to photo

2. Use descriptive labels, that is to say, long ones

3. Who appears in the photos?

4. Where were the photographs taken?

5. Are there objects that are characteristic or curious or of a certain importance?

6. Portrait, landscape, abstract, macro ... indicates the typology

7. Label the techniques you have used in taking the photo (Time-lapse, HDR ...)

8. Which goal do you use?
