World Diabetes Day - Press Release

10/12/2018

Diabetes affects 13% of the population of Spain, over 18 years of age, and its quality of life gets worse by the crisis.

This coming Thursday, November 14, is the World Day for Diabetes Awareness. Almost two hundred countries around the world mutually support each other to support a mass campaign that aims to give visibility to all those who suffer from the disease and those who are at risk of developing it in the future. In the world it is estimated that 350 million people suffer from diabetes. In Spain 13% of citizens over 18 years old suffer from diabetes and a large part of the population still does not know or are aware that they are at risk of suffering it.

The Association of Diabetics of Catalonia (ADC) promotes the quality of public assistance and in difficult times such as the current one, with cuts in health, it realizes that the Public Administration "induces the reuse of needles, a material that is designed for single use "and that can affect the quality of life of the patients in order to be the cause of possible hypertrophy, bruising ...

Apart from giving voice to patients who see their quality of life worse, the Association is currently promoting a 2.0 awareness campaign that aims to share with the greatest possible number of people, through the network, a blue sphere that symbolizes support and Hope for all those who suffer from diabetes disease.

That is why ADC wants to take advantage of the World Diabetes Day to claim the need to guarantee good public attention to the patients. "It is necessary to give the necessary strips and needles to get insulin without the high reuse that is being made at this time," says the president of the Association of Diabetics of Catalonia, Montserrat Soley.
